Improve Rosacea and Acne with LED Light Therapy

Skin Fitness Raleigh LED Light Therapy

Everyone's skin is different. That said, there are plenty of treatments provided for these conditions that have proven effective such as gels, creams, chemical peels and antibiotics. However, sometimes the skin breakouts happen regardless. LED light therapy is a recommended option for a wide range of skin conditions such as rosacea, acne, blackheads, oily skin, eczema, and melasma.

What is LED Light Therapy?

The treatment falls under the field of Light Therapy, also called Phototherapy. It involves the exposure of specific wavelengths of light to a patient. This filtered light is administered for a prescribed period at particular times of the day. One may be exposed to either Blue Light or Red light depending on their doctor's recommendation. LED light therapy uses a narrow band of high-intensity blue light which does not have ultraviolet light –unlike other light treatments. Although clinical trials are still ongoing, the usage of light over the years has shown its crucial role in improving health and well-being.

LED Light Therapy and Rosacea

Acne is caused by bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) when it accumulates in blocked skin pores, along with oil, dirt and dead cells. When Blue LED light is administered to the skin, it destroys toxic substances and kills the bacteria causing acne. The therapy also reduces production of pore-clogging oil by shrinking the skin's oil glands.

Rosacea is a chronic, incurable skin condition that appears as small, red, bumps on the face. Blue light therapy minimizes and reduces the symptoms. LED light therapy has shown long-lasting results for sufferers of the condition. Light therapy is often combined with other forms of treatment by doctors for severe acne and rosacea.
